What is the Summer Academy for Future Teachers? What is the Summer Academy for Future Teachers? As part of a comprehensive plan to recruit the best and brightest into the field of teaching, the Summer Academy for Future Teachers is designed to assist high school students in choosing education as a career. Participants are immersed in a variety of experiences including:
Where and when will the 2005 Summer Academy be held? The 2005 Summer Academy will be conducted on the campus of the Colorado State University-Pueblo, July 11-15, 2005. Participants will live on campus in the CSU-Pueblo Belmont Residence Hall for the entire week. Who can apply for the Academy? All current Colorado high school sophomores and juniors wishing to pursue a career in education may apply. Applications are available from your school counselor or the sponsor of your Future Teacher Organization at your school. You may also download and print a copy of the application below. Submit your completed application to the address on the application no later than May 15, 2005. Summer Academy for Future Teachers 2005 Application Form Application Deadline: May 15, 2005 Approximately 30 current sophomores and juniors will be selected to attend the Summer Academy for Future Teachers. If chosen, SCTEA will provide your funding for the entire academy including room, board, tuition, materials, and supplies. You will only be responsible for transportation to and from the academy as well as any incidental costs while here (i.e., snacks, mementos, etc. Criteria
used to select participants include an interest in a career in
teaching and promise for becoming a successful teacher based upon
academic achievement, a recommendation from an educator, demonstrated
leadership and participation in school and/or community activities,
proposed leadership project, and a written essay. Participants will be notified before June 1, 2005. The Academy Director, Cindy Gutierrez, along with outstanding and award-winning educators from the region and the state as well as several esteemed CSU-Pueblo faculty will collaborate to offer participants a week filled with experiences they won't soon forget! Also, three outstanding students from the teacher education program at CSU-Pueblo will serve as Academy Student Leaders and Residence Hall Supervisors.
