The SCTEA recognizes that to reach the goal of assuring a Quality Teacher in every classroom in Southern Colorado all stakeholders must actively participate in the process. Project personnel will facilitate the process by supporting reform and providing day to day leadership in implementing SCTEA activities. Because of the effort of hundreds of participants from 25 partners, graduates of teacher education at CSU-Pueblo will be well-prepared to meet the challenge of teaching in the 21st Century.

Student assessment and program evaluation are central SCTEA activities, especially in terms of demonstrating that the five project goals have been attained and exceeded. As SCTEA’s Evaluation Coordinator, my primary responsibilities involve providing assessment expertise to the SCTEA, developing and maintaining the SCTEA database and information retrieval structures, overseeing the conduct of all validation studies (e.g., establishing the reliability and validity of beginning teacher evaluation systems, etc), overseeing all aspects of survey design, administration, and analysis, and conducting scholarly research on topics central to the SCTEA. As an SCTEA partner, please contact me if you have grant-related questions in these areas.

cindy.gutierrez@colostate-pueblo.edu

Give me your best and your brightest students and let me introduce them to the greatest profession in the world…TEACHING! My name is Cindy Gutierrez and I am first and foremost a teacher,  taking on a new professional challenge as the Recruitment Coordinator for SCTEA. My main focus is to work with high school students to help them realize their awesome potential as future teachers! To begin, I will be working closely with high school and community college faculty willing to develop Future Teacher Education Associations across southeastern Colorado.  Also, each summer, students from SCTEA high schools will have the opportunity for scholarships to participate in a weeklong Summer Academy for Future Teachers where they will work closely with master teachers from around the state. I look forward to meeting and working with each and every partner this year!

Margie Massey
Curriculum Lab Coordinator

719-549-2257
margie.massey@colostate-pueblo.edu

As the coordinator of the curriculum lab, my role is to maintain and update the resources available to the students and faculty. Resources are available to be checked out, or to be used within the lab. Currently there are three computers available for CD-ROM programs, and for general use. Whether you just want to browse or you want a quiet place to try our new resources, the lab fits that niche. The possibilities are endless, and the excitement of this new resource is incredible. I look forward to working with each and every one of you.

Tim Peters, M.A.
Technology Coordinator

719-549-2275
tim.peters@colostate-pueblo.edu

As the SCTEA Technology Coordinator, my role is to provide the technological support to all components of the program.  The Web Site will provide valuable resources to the program, as well as, discussion boards and chat rooms for participants to share information and to support each other.  We are also setting up distance classrooms with the latest distance technologies to bring interactivity to activities throughout the region.  You should also expect a series of Web and/or CD-Rom based resources to be published through the Alliance.  The opportunities are exciting, and I look forward to working with all of you.

Vivian Valdez-Hall, MA
Curriculum and Instruction Coordinator

719-549-2273
vivian.valdezhall@colostate-pueblo.edu

As Curriculum and Instruction Coordinator, my work involves the SCTEA partner districts by working with them to identify school sites with master teachers for student teacher placements. In addition to coordinating and supporting student teachers, I also coordinate the Teacher-in-Residency Program. Other initiatives I am working with involve developing local models for Professional Development Schools and Field Experiences.

Kathleen Wilson, MS
Induction Coordinator

kathleen.wilson@colostate-pueblo.edu

As Induction Coordinator for the Southern Colorado Teacher Education Alliance, I support district induction programs by assisting induction coordinators, mentors, and beginning teachers. For example, I might work with induction coordinators to research and refine a district’s current induction model or assist in developing staff development opportunities. Additional support will be offered to first year teachers and mentors through a range of distance education applications, including the SCTEA Web site.

My primary responsibility is to facilitate and maintain the efficiency of the Teacher Education office. Our staff utilizes a team approach to provide the appropriate information and resources available to all students, faculty and community members. Whether it is answering schedule questions, making contacts with advisors, providing documentation, etc., our efforts will always be professional, sincere and friendly. The atmosphere of this department is invigorating and challenging and we are here to help you succeed in meeting the quality expectations of CSU-Pueblo’s Teacher Education Program.

William Scott Whited, M.A.
Special Assistant to the Dean
College of Humanities and Social Sciences

719-549-2179
w.s.whited@colostate-pueblo.edu

I work directly with both the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHASS), under the supervision of Dean Russell Meyer, and the Teacher Education Program, under the supervision of the SCTEA Project Director, Dr. Victoria Marquesen. Many TEP students get their K-12 content area expertise from the courses and professors in CHASS. By coordinating the efforts of the faculty and staff of both entities, as well as those of the Provost's office, our goal is to increase and enhance the effectiveness of the teaching and learning that the TEP students gain in their content courses, thus making them more effective teachers once they get to their professional K-12 teaching assignments.
