Technology
as a Key Element
Technology
is a key element in achieving the six goals of the Southern
Colorado Teacher Education Alliance. SCTEA has targeted
five goals to improve teacher education in the southern
region of Colorado, with technology used to achieve each
of these goals.
Goal 1: Recruitment of future teachers
-
Create
a community of future teachers by developing connections
across partners, including
-
An
interactive web site for all future teacher groups,
their sponsors, and the recruitment working group
-
Distance
and telecommunication applications to connect
future teacher groups, student leadership, sponsors,
and the recruitment working group for meetings,
programs, and other activities.
Goal
2: Develop a standards driven instructional model in the
liberal arts and other areas.
- Develop
a web based program description to articulate each
licensure program's content standards, course benchmarks,
assessment procedures, proficiency requirements,
and samples of student work indicating proficiency
at different levels.
- Develop
an interactive web site for curriculum reform on-line
in which faculty from each content area at
CSU-Pueblo and
each community college partner can collaborate on-line.
Goal 3: Improve performance of program graduates by strengthening
professional education programs.
- Utilize
technology to strengthen learning communities during
student teaching. Students will communicate with
supervisors and peers via web-based telecommunication
and partner distance classrooms.
- Strengthen
resources for technology use for students in all
licensure areas by continuing to improve resources
across programs at CSU-Pueblo, in field experiences and
student teaching classrooms, and at partner colleges.
- Develop
early proficiencies in required technology class
and revise requirements in all professional education
classes to meet state and national technology standards.
- Implement
activities for cooperating teachers, field experience
students, and pre-service teachers in k-12 classrooms
to assist pre-service students in meeting these
technology standards.
- Work
collaboratively with college partners to develop
early experience technology class for pre-service
teachers at community colleges.
- Develop
a protocol for a web based portfolio for all pre-service
teachers, working collaboratively with college partners
offering technology class.
Goal
4: Improve the quality of instruction and learning
for pre-service teachers.
-
Develop
a web site to provide faculty resources, document
faculty activities, and provide conferencing capabilities
to develop and strengthen writing across the curriculum
and technology use.
Goal
5: Strengthening of Teacher Induction
- Implement
an ongoing, web based strategy for identifying needs
of beginning teachers, their mentors, and district
induction coordinators.
- Develop
and implement a web-based dissemination system for
Resource Center materials.
-
Develop
both synchronous and asynchronous web-based
staff development activities correlated with identified
beginning teacher needs.
-
Utilize
the distance classrooms in partner schools for staff
development.
-
Develop
a variety of conferencing on the web support groups
for beginning teachers.
-
Utilize
the distance classrooms in partner schools and web
based communications to connect beginning teachers
with human resources such as university faculty,
master teachers.
Goal 6: Continue
to develop the SCTEA infrastructure to support project
goals.
-
Develop
a data management system to track project goals
and outcomes involving student recruitment, retention,
and student progress
