 Careers in Teaching
Demand for teachers is increasing and job opportunities
are increasing rapidly. Our Nation needs to ensure that
there is a highly qualified teacher in every classroom and
that all children have the opportunity to achieve high
standards. College graduates have unique skills and
industry experience adds a valuable perspective in the
classroom. If you are energetic, enthusiastic, and if you
want to make a difference, to help shape the future of
your community, teaching is a career for you.
Why Choose Teaching
Over 100,000 teachers work in nearly 10,000 schools and we
are facing a shortage of qualified
individuals. The teaching profession is growing, and the
resources and compensation have
improved significantly.
But teaching is not just about material rewards. This is a
career for people who are enthusiastic,
creative and have a desire to help children achieve their
best. Supporting teachers means giving them the very best
tools – the best research-based lessons and materials and
the best training – to ensure that no child is left
behind.
Transition to Teaching
It is estimated that 2 million teachers will be needed
over the next 10 years. CSU-Pueblo’s
Teacher-in-Residency program was created to help address
the national challenge. Our goal is
to recruit highly qualified, mid-career and recent college
graduates to become teachers. The
Teacher-in-Residency Program provides the proper training,
assistance, guidance, support
and in some cases stipends and incentives, to become
highly qualified teachers through
alternative certification routes and make teaching a
long-term commitment.
