Personal and Social Responsibility in Physical Education
Target Users: Elementary
teachers and pre-service teachers, youth workers
An important aspect of developing
healthy lifestyles is being personally and socially responsible.
K-12 students need to be taught methods of goal setting and socially
acceptable behavior in the physical activity setting to meet NASPE
standards. Pre service physical educators will analyze the VRSD
elementary school programs mission statement and policies. They will
also set personal goals related to beginning teacher standards.
After developing and implementing a lesson in which elementary
students are lead to improve responsibility, reflective discussion
and journals will be completed.

Process/Procedure:
Pre service students will:
- Review Dos Rios Virtual School
District(DRSVD) information on responsibility including mission
statement, physical education rules, and student and teacher
document samples.
- Read class assignment on
responsibility.
- Write a self evaluation on how they
are personally and socially responsible.
- Visit school that uses responsibility
development in physical education.
- Prepare group lesson plan, teach and
video tape lesson at the elementary level.
- Have elementary students complete goal
sheets and journals.
- Review videotaped lesson and
elementary students work then write a reflection paper on it.
- Develop case studies from real
students for the VRSD.
